Keep Your Blog Posts Archives Alive

How to Keep Your Blog Archives Alive:

Do you have blog posts that are Left 4 Dead?  If you have written many blog articles you will want to keep them from being ignored by your readers.  Most visitors to your blog will read the first one or maybe two blog posts on your home page.  Don't let all of those old blog posts that you slaved over get lost in the vast wasteland of old blog posts.

There are several ways to keep your old blog posts featured or highlighted so that new blog visitors will read these gems.

  • Add a popular blog posts widget on your sidebar and feature some posts you believe your readers should read.

  • Make your old posts into a series and link them all together.
  • Use your Twitter account or Facebook page to add some of your old blog post links.

  • Put links in your new posts to an old post that explains the topic further.

  • You can put up a new blog post just listing your favorite old posts.  Possibly a top 10 favorite blog posts list.

  • Interlink old posts to one another.

  • Post the top three posts at the end of each month.

  • Have a related posts plug-in at the bottom of each post.

You can always find a new way to get those old blog posts some more love.  Try posting a follow up post about how the blog post topic worked or didn't work or is no useful to you.  Think about it for a little bit, maybe get creative, and you can breathe new life into your old blog posts.

Is Your Blog in the Right Niche?

Are you blogging about the right niche for you?

Many people jump into blogging and make the mistake of not picking a niche.  What is a niche anyway?  A niche is a narrow part of something bigger.  For example you like to garden, a gardening niche would be green house gardening or flower pot gardening.  If your blog is too general you will likely not meet your blog visitors needs and they will find what they are looking for elsewhere.

There are many niches that you can write a blog about but some of them are not right for everyone.  Think about your hobbies and what you like to do or talk about and work from there.  If you would like some niche suggestions here is a blog post I wrote last month: 101 Niches to Blog About

Many other bloggers suggest that the make money niche in blogging is not the right niche for everyone.  For one, there are blogs telling you how to make money everywhere you look.  Make money blogs are probably 10 to 1 verses other blog niches.  So competition in this category is fierce and raging.
You also don't want to pick a blog niche that is too narrow.  If you wanted to blog about the missing socks from the dryer you might not be able to make much money from this because there are not enough searches going on about this topic.  So you don't want to narrow down a general niche topic too far so that no one even cares.

Why you need to pick the right niche ~ Niche Writing Will:
  •   Show your expertise in your Niche area.
  •   Drive targeted traffic to your Niche Blog or Niche Articles.
  •   Bring Specialized clients to you.
  •   Enable you to sell more products related to your niche.
  •   Make you more money.

If you still don't know what the right niche is for you and you want some help to become a Niche Blogging Authority then you might like to read Niche Blogging Profits by Codrut Turcanu.

No Traffic - Get Mad About It!

Are you going to sit there and wine about no traffic or will you get mad about it?

Your blog has no traffic (or only a little trickle) what can you do?  Do you get depressed?  Stop blogging?  Move onto another blog niche?

No you get mad about it.  OK, then what?  You go out and take action.  Go get yourself all angered up that no one cares but you will make them care.  You will make them see how valuable your money making blog is and then they will all come to you for answers.

How to get motivated to go and get your own blog traffic:
  • Do something to promote your blog - in-action often leads to more in-action.  Do something to get your engine started and maybe you will get motivated to do so much more.
  • Make a blog plan - if you already have one then chuck it in the trash and make a new one that is better.
  • Follow your blog plan and reach the goals and then set new ones.
  • Make deadlines for your blog plan and work to meet those deadlines.

Here is a little motivating quote to get your butt in gear and go out and get that blog traffic, "I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have." Thomas Jefferson

Remember that even the biggest pro-bloggers did not have overnight success.  Everyone claims that they are making money, but some of that is deception.  Proof of income can be faked with paint shop or photoshop programs.  If you are reading a popular blog chances are if you were to look into their archives (if you can find them) they have been blogging on the same site for around two years and have hundreds of blog posts or more.

Well, why are you still here reading my blog?  Don't you have some work to do?  Go now and get busy!

Using Twitter to Get Traffic to Your Blog

Twitter for More Blog Traffic

If you have not signed up for Twitter and you have a blog you are missing out on potential traffic and new blog readers.  Twitter can be a powerful blogging tool for blog traffic.

To get more followers on Twitter you can do a search on your blog's keywords, mine are make money online and make money blogging so I search for those.  Then you can see who else is tweeting your key words, they may be your competition.  Here is what you can do though, see who their followers are and go follow them.  Chances are, they are interested in your key word topic or blogging niche and will follow you back.  By doing this you gain two things, more followers and potential blog readers.

When you make a new blog post you also post a tweet about the blog post with a link.  That way your followers will see your blog post title and they can click through to your blog.  You might just get some loyal blog readers in this manner, and it's easy to do.

If you are not utilizing Twitter for your blog traffic you may want to reconsider and sign up today.  You may have noticed that my blog has a widget to show my most recent tweets on my blog.  I have also used FeedBurner to automatically post my blog title with a link on Twitter.

One last note about Twitter:  Twitter can be a personal thing but if you have a blog that is not about your personal life, then you don't need to post personal stuff.  If you have a money making blog you will not want to post about the weather or what you ate for lunch.  If you have just found a great deal for bloggers you could always tweet about that.

Good Blogging Habits

Do You Have the Right Blogging Habits?

If you make some daily blogging habits it can help you do have a successful money making blog.  The experts seem to agree that habits are made in about one month. So if you do an activity everyday for one month you can make it into a habit.  Likewise, if you want to break a bad habit you will need to stop doing it for one month's time.

Good Blogging Habits:
  1. Blog Post Daily - If you get into the good habit of posting on your blog everyday it will become a habit and you may even begin to look forward to it.  If you happen to stop posting for a day because of illness, etc. you may have guilt because you have let yourself down or your readers down.  Take the challenge - Post everyday for one month.
  2. Attract Traffic to Your Blog - This is an essential step that most people stop after only a few tries.  If you go around the Internet and daily try to get traffic to your site, you will be a step ahead of the competition.  Read:  5 Ways to Get Traffic to your Blog for ideas.
  3. Build Blogging Connections - Leave comments on other bloggers blog posts and they might just return the favor.  If you make blogging connections with bloggers in the same niche in the future there may be an opportunity for a joint venture.

If you continue to make these three steps into daily habits no matter what you will succeed.  That means if you don't get any comments or make any sales and have no visitors then you still complete these good daily blogging habits.

To take a quote from the movie Field of Dreams, "If you build it, t(he)y will come."  If you post regularly and go out and actively try to get traffic and make blogging connections eventually they will come to your blog.

So make some new habits and commit to doing these three things each day for one month.  Then you will be set and soon will have even more traffic than before.

You may have been wondering about those programs that supposedly show you how to earn hundreds from Google each and every day for very little work.  Those get rich quick schemes forget to tell you that they have set up hundreds of blogs or websites and have the maximum amount of Google Ads on all of them and little else of value.

Unless you want to have hundreds of blogs and be a contributing factor in all of the useless crap on the Internet there are a few simple things you can do to earn a few bucks from Google.  If you already have a blog and have Google Adsense Ads you can optimize the ads and put them in more prominent places.

Google itself knows which type of ads do the best and the best placement for the ads.  After all Google has all of the raw data for Adsense Ads, so they should know what works best and where.

    Tips for Google Ads:
    • The larger the better.  Try the Large Rectangle or the Leaderboard.
    • Google Search
    • Blend the Ad colors to your site.
    • Ads in your RSS Feed
    • Ads at the very top of your blog - see mine, right up there at the top.

Don't forget the little Google search box, every blog needs some kind of search box so why not make money off of the searches.  Unless of course you are trying to keep people on your blog, but if they are interested in what you have to say they will stay anyways.

How to use SEO to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

    How to SEO your Blog

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a tool that bloggers use to drive targeted traffic to their blogs.  Then the blog owners use the SEO targeted search traffic to make more money blogging.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the use of certain key words used in blog posts, blog titles, etc.  When the key words are searched for hopefully your blog will show up on the search engine and will bring lots of free traffic along with it.

For example my blog is a money making blog and I want to use certain key words about making money online.  Now those previous key words are very competitive key words and even if I use them strategically or optimize my blog, it will be difficult to show up on Google's front page for those key words.  Fortunately for me there are some other key words that are still searched a ton and I can use SEO to drive free search engine traffic my way.

Everyone who wants to get traffic uses SEO, some use it well and some don't.  There are some bloggers who will keyword spam which is very bad and the search engines will rank you lower for applying that tactic.  It is suggested that you only use your key words every 100 words.

If you have many popular key words you are focusing on, then you can use them all and weave them naturally into your text.  Sometimes though when you are writing about a topic you will use the keywords more than you would actually like, but it is necessary to get your points across.

There are a few specific places you will want to always try to use your keywords in or around.

    • The Title
    • First Paragraph
    • Last Paragraph
    • Bold Headlines

Now there are some who will tell you that SEO is dead, but it is not.  The reality is that Google changed the way they rank sites, they no longer only use SEO.  What they are now doing is something called LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing.

What is LSI?  It is a very complicated mathematical calculation.  What you need to know about LSI  is that you not only have to use keywords and SEO or keyword placement but now you have to make sure that the other words on the page are closely related to your keywords.

For Example: Today's keyword might be SEO so I am also using the words search engines, Google search, keywords, LSI, traffic, etc.    See how all of those words are related to one another, so now this little money making blog post has some SEO and some LSI all working together to make an informative article.

If you would like to learn the best Keywords for your blog's niche you can use Google's Adwords Keyword Tool.

        Those Internet Marketing Guru's Lied!

Those Internet Marketing Guru's Lied about Making Money Online with Blogging!

        Those Lying Gurus Promised:
        I would make fast money.
        I would make easy money.
I can earn $1,000's each month.
I could set my blog up and then forget it and it would make money day after day.

Basically these affiliate marketing Guru's promised me the moon and they lied.  Not only did I not make $1,000's every month the money from my online blog came neither fast or easy.

Oh they woo you into a comfort zone and feed you all kinds of lies, they know exactly what they are doing.  Those lying Gurus show you pictures of all of their online earnings and show how they even make $1,000's in a matter of days or mere hours.

So we believe their bilge and start to trust them, sign up for their newsletter which tells us about their new book and their exclusive membership site for a select few.  The affiliate marketers know how to sell us their lies and their useless crap.

OK, I will admit it I have been sucked in by those Guru's lies and I have paid for it - literally.  Some of those lying cheats will sell you a well written ebook that is full of info and appropriate in length for the price you paid.  But... and this is a big but folks - no one can ever follow their guidelines to make any money.  Either their book is too technical for the average newbie or it is confusing and lacks direction or a clear and precise plan for you to follow.

If you don't want to get burnt by those Lying Internet Gurus who just steal your money - then you need to make sure before you buy any ebook, system or before you join their exclusive club that they are giving you an easy to follow, step by step plan for beginners.

Also just so you know - making money online with a blog is not going to be easy.  You will have to do some work, especially if you don't have any money to start out with.  That said, I am not trying to discourage you from trying.  Please go ahead and try, prove all those naysayers wrong.  Just try not to get scammed by those lying gurus.  Don't forget that you will need to put time into your new online endeavor.

Think positively!  Now repeat after me..."I will have a successful blog and it will make me big money online!"  If you are determined you can achieve it.
