April's 1,000 Comment Challenge

1,000 Comment Challenge

Are you up to the challenge?  Can you make 1,000 comments on blogs or websites in just one month?  That means you will need to leave an average of 33 comments everyday.  If you think you are up for the monthly comment challenge then start making those comments.

Why bother leaving comments on other peoples blogs you ask?  Because, if you leave a comment you may get back much more than you gave.

Perks of Leaving Comments:
  • If you leave a comment you might get a comment back on your blog.
  • If you leave a comment you might get a "do follow" backlink.
  • If you leave a comment you might get other readers from that blog to visit your site.
  • Free blog traffic.

Now this is not assured for every comment that you leave.  Just say that you only get a 10% return on your 1,000 comments, that would be 100, which could be broken down between the three perks of comments above.  Did I mention that this is a free traffic generation idea?  That means one more way for you to get free blog traffic and possibly make some blogging friends in the process.

*Of course I would like you to start off the challenge by leaving a comment on this blog post.  Look up toward the top of this blog post for the comments link to click on and then leave a comment.  Let me know that you are going to take the 1,000 Comment Challenge for the month and your blogs name.*

Keep Your Blog Posts Archives Alive

How to Keep Your Blog Archives Alive:

Do you have blog posts that are Left 4 Dead?  If you have written many blog articles you will want to keep them from being ignored by your readers.  Most visitors to your blog will read the first one or maybe two blog posts on your home page.  Don't let all of those old blog posts that you slaved over get lost in the vast wasteland of old blog posts.

There are several ways to keep your old blog posts featured or highlighted so that new blog visitors will read these gems.

  • Add a popular blog posts widget on your sidebar and feature some posts you believe your readers should read.

  • Make your old posts into a series and link them all together.
  • Use your Twitter account or Facebook page to add some of your old blog post links.

  • Put links in your new posts to an old post that explains the topic further.

  • You can put up a new blog post just listing your favorite old posts.  Possibly a top 10 favorite blog posts list.

  • Interlink old posts to one another.

  • Post the top three posts at the end of each month.

  • Have a related posts plug-in at the bottom of each post.

You can always find a new way to get those old blog posts some more love.  Try posting a follow up post about how the blog post topic worked or didn't work or is no useful to you.  Think about it for a little bit, maybe get creative, and you can breathe new life into your old blog posts.

How to Make Money With Your Blog

There are only 2 things you need to do to make money blogging.  When you start a new blog those two things need to be done on a daily basis.  New bloggers or struggling bloggers will need to make a commitment to check these two items off each and every day.

OK, do you want to know what the 2 really important things are that bloggers must do?  You may be disappointed to learn that you already know the answer to the blogging keys to success.

How to Make Money Blogging:
  1. Make useful posts that help your readers.
  2. Drive traffic to your blog.

Told ya that you already knew them.  These  items need to be part of your daily blogging routine.  Because if you have no helpful content people will leave.  If you don't have traffic they can't find your blog.

It seems so simple and in reality it is, but the traffic is extremely important and can be hard to attain.  That is why you have to work on getting visitors daily at first.  Later when your blog has taken off the traffic will come on its own.  For now though you must do some work.  So click on over to my post  5 Ways to Get Traffic to Your Blog and get busy getting your blog traffic.

Day 15 - My Blogging Challenge Update

Day 15 of my money making blog challenge.

My blog is already two weeks old and I have made improvements and done research and learned about new things and myself in the process.  Here is what I have been up to in the last few days.

Traffic to my Blog:
Technorati has still not completed my blog acceptance.
RSS Readership is up to 8 readers, Thank you!
Pinged blog again.
Submitted Traffic Post to Blog Carnivals.

Unfortunately I did not spend as much time on getting traffic to my blog this second week and I can see the results or lack of results.  My blog traffic was going up and then it went back down and seems to have tanked, so I can see this is an area where I am going to have to put more focus.

Money from Blog:
I have gotten 2 whole adsense clicks, while that is great it is an extremely slow progression.

Not sure if the Google Analytics are working or not.  I know that the reports are behind or not up to the minute but they conflict.  Very confusing and frustrating because I was told this was the most accurate reporting for unique visitors.

I changed my mind:
You may have noticed, or not, but I am now a .com.  I changed my domain from a blogspot to http://www.mybloggingfortune.com/  I was doing some thinking back to a past failure and I want to be sure that history does not repeat itself.

I was an eBay Powerseller then one day one of my competitors got jealous of my success and reported me to eBay.  I did nothing to break the rules but their decision is final and there is no appeal process and I was out of luck.

I realized that blogger who is owned by Google had shut down some blogs around the last presidential election and they probably did nothing wrong either, some of them got reinstated, but that is not the point.

The point is that I don't want to work hard for six months or a year and then all of the sudden have my blog locked because they think I broke a rule.  This way if that happens I will just go out and get my own hosting and will move all my posts there.

Just a little explanation of the recent change of heart or mind.  They want to protect their investments and I am going to do the same for me.  I did not want to spend the money until I had it to reinvest back into the blog, but I felt it was the right thing to do before I went any further.

New Blog Goals:
  •  Publish 2 Blog Posts a day until March
  •  Work on getting traffic to my blog daily.

Make Money Online Without Spending Any Money

How to Make Money Online Without Spending Money

The best way to make money online is with blogging.  Pick your niche and you can set up a blog for free on Wordpress or Blogger and get started in your money making ventures.  Once you set up your free blog you then can sign up for Google Adsense, Amazon Affiliates and ClickBank.  You can even accept donations from PayPal on your blog to make more cash.

With Making Money Blogging you don't need your own website or hosting and most importantly you no longer need a product to earn money online.  You are able to sell other people's products or digital information right on your blog all without spending one measly penny.

Once you set up your blog and have monetized it then you will want to drive traffic to your blog.  There are many ways to get visitors to come and read your blog without spending any money.  You can read my free traffic ideas blog post here:  5 Ways to Get Traffic to Your Blog

All of this may sound simple, and really to set everything up making money online with a blog is easy to get started but it will take a while for the cash to start pouring in.  If you don't want to set up your own blog because it intimidates you there are other free blogging for profit options that I have listed here: Where to Get Paid to Blog

Learn HTML to Maximize your Profit

Learn HTML to Increase your Money Making Blog's Profit

If you learn a little HTML or HyperText Markup Language you can add features to your blog that your competition may not have.   HTML has made the Internet what it is today, without it all you would see is plain text.

The definition of HTML is the language used in construction and layout of websites where special HTML tags are used to change the text.  These tags for HTML are contained inside carrots < > and consist of words or letters.

What can you do to your blog with HTML?  You can do all of the other things that your blog post text editor can help you do and more...

With HTML You Can:
Bold Text
Italicize Text
Underline Text
Change Color
Change Font
Change Size

Now if you have a money making blog you can use HTML for links and you can decide if you want the link to lead visitors away from your site or if you want them to have the link open up in another tab and keep your blog page open.

For Example:  to open a new window or tab you would use the following:

<*A HREF="newwindow.html" TARGET="_blank">a new window<*/A>

You would replace the "newwindow.html" with your link and then replace "a new window" with the
text that you want to show over the link.  You must also take out the asterisks for the html to work
properly.

When you are done it could look like this:
Money Making Blog and if you click on it you will find you will be taken to My Blogging Fortune's Home page but in a new tab or window.

There are many HTML Tutorials that you can find and use on the Internet.  I have found one that I especially like at HtmlCodeTutorial.com  Or if you like to learn by watching videos you can take the One Hour HTML course.

How to use SEO to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

How to SEO your Blog

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a tool that bloggers use to drive targeted traffic to their blogs.  Then the blog owners use the SEO targeted search traffic to make more money blogging.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the use of certain key words used in blog posts, blog titles, etc.  When the key words are searched for hopefully your blog will show up on the search engine and will bring lots of free traffic along with it.

For example my blog is a money making blog and I want to use certain key words about making money online.  Now those previous key words are very competitive key words and even if I use them strategically or optimize my blog, it will be difficult to show up on Google's front page for those key words.  Fortunately for me there are some other key words that are still searched a ton and I can use SEO to drive free search engine traffic my way.

Everyone who wants to get traffic uses SEO, some use it well and some don't.  There are some bloggers who will keyword spam which is very bad and the search engines will rank you lower for applying that tactic.  It is suggested that you only use your key words every 100 words.

If you have many popular key words you are focusing on, then you can use them all and weave them naturally into your text.  Sometimes though when you are writing about a topic you will use the keywords more than you would actually like, but it is necessary to get your points across.

There are a few specific places you will want to always try to use your keywords in or around.

  • The Title
  • First Paragraph
  • Last Paragraph
  • Bold Headlines

Now there are some who will tell you that SEO is dead, but it is not.  The reality is that Google changed the way they rank sites, they no longer only use SEO.  What they are now doing is something called LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing.

What is LSI?  It is a very complicated mathematical calculation.  What you need to know about LSI  is that you not only have to use keywords and SEO or keyword placement but now you have to make sure that the other words on the page are closely related to your keywords.

For Example: Today's keyword might be SEO so I am also using the words search engines, Google search, keywords, LSI, traffic, etc.    See how all of those words are related to one another, so now this little money making blog post has some SEO and some LSI all working together to make an informative article.

If you would like to learn the best Keywords for your blog's niche you can use Google's Adwords Keyword Tool.

If you need more help with SEO and keywords you might like a program like:  Insider Search Engine Optimization Secrets.

Do You Have What it Takes to Make Money Online with Blogging?

Do You Have the Right Stuff to Make Money Blogging?

Are you cut out to be a blogger?  Are you willing to do what it takes to be successful and learn the tricks of the trade to make money blogging?

If you answered yes to the above questions then you are part way there.  But there is more to blogging success then the will to make money.  You need to have the entrepreneurial spirit and qualities to reach your achievements.

      Ready for the long haul?
Blogging does not usually produce fast money results.  Are you willing to tough it out for months with no income?  Then when you have the traffic and you are still not making any money you need to be willing to revamp everything and change it up so that is can be profitable.

      Personal Social Networking:
Blogging or other work online can leave you devoid of social contact. So you need to be prepared to not have the advantage of having coworkers that you can talk to on a lunch break, after work, etc.  You can combat the loneliness of the quiet blogging life by being active on Facbook or just by picking up your cell phone.  You can even join groups to give you some social contact during the week.  Just make sure your social life doesn't get in the way of your blogging priorities.

      Steps to Blogging Success:
      • Make a Blogging Business Plan.
      • List your monthly money making goals  - do what it will take to try to keep those on track.
      • Make blog posting goals and stick to it.
      • Don't put all of your eggs in one basket - multiple streams of income.
      • Stay focused in your niche.
      • Keep learning for success.

As a blogger you need the ability to make goals and find the ways to reach them.  You need to have the drive to push yourself beyond what others in your niche are willing to do.  Make sure you have the time to devote to your new blog and invest your time wisely.

Sometimes being desperate for money can be a big push for people who want to make money with blogs.  There are plenty of success stories out there and there are just as many failure stories too.  If there is something you don't understand or cannot do just ask someone who is already successful.  If they don't answer you then find the answer on your own or ask someone else, but find the solution and you will progress.  Hopefully that progression will lead to money making blogging opportunities.

Day 10 of My Blogging Challenge - Update

I have accomplished so much in just a week and a half for this blog.  I have looked back towards my past failures and successes and realized that when I set goals I reach them. I once wanted to be an eBay Powerseller and I reached that goal.  There have been other goals that I have set for myself and I have reached them.

I now realize why my previous attempt at becoming an affiliate marketer failed.  I did not know how to write for the Internet or how to write in a niche with targeted SEO.  Now after a year of freelance writing I understand this process much better.

You can learn from my mistakes and you can figure all of this out - the information is out there and hopefully most of it will be on my blog.

My Blogging Challenge News - Day 10
      •  Indexed in Google!
      •  Google Adsense Money - Only some spare change but boy was I excited!  I did a little dance because some angel came to my blog.  I know that one click does not make me rich or even indicate the success of my blog, but it made me feel vindicated and gave me incentive to keep on keeping on.
      • I am one-fourth of the way to my 100th blog post goal.  Using the double posting each day to reach this goal faster and to fill my blog out with useful content.
      • Working on a free giveaway with email sign up - this is the point where I have failed before, I now know that to get where I want to go and to reach my money making goals - this step is all important to reaching those goals.

My blog is still considered a baby a newborn really.  This blog even though it is in infancy it is doing well, I think.  Indexed and already has made a tiny profit!

My Blogging Fortune Just Got Indexed in Google

Just one week after starting the money making blog My Blogging Fortune and it was  Indexed in Google this morning.

I have been checking Google everyday since I started my blogging challenge and it had not indexed yet.  Now some of the links that I had posted and bookmarks were showing up but not my blogs URL.   My blogs URL is:  http://cashblogmoney.blogspot.com/ and it finally showed up.

This means that my new blog posts should get indexed also.  If I use the correct key words for my blog such as making money online with a blog, then people searching those words should find something about my blog and hopefully be compelled enough to come and visit and learn something.

I was very excited to find out that all my hard work that I had done last week actually worked.  I had been getting a little discouraged because it was taking so long to get my blog indexed.  I normally don't care too much but this blog I want to succeed and quickly so getting visitors and indexed in the search engine is a great advantage.

I was worried that it would get stuck because I was reading how it took some money making blogs anywhere from 3 to 6 months to get indexed.  So right there I am way ahead of the game.  This way I won't give up and I can use the extra time to post to my blog and build up readers and some other things that I have planned.

So if you want to make money online with a blog like me just follow along and see just what I will do next to get more money from my blog!

Day 7 - My Blogging Fortune Challenge

Day 7 of my money making blog challenge.

Well it has been one full week since I have started my blog.  I have learned so much in just one week about making money online.  I already new somethings from a few years ago but the Internet is always changing and I was not keeping up.  Now that I am a little more up to speed my blog will certainly have much better results than if I tried using tactics that worked 5 years ago.

What did I do on Day 7 to Make Money with my Blog?
      • Put up a privacy policy - was supposed to have this before, oops.
      • Made 1 anchor text link with my key words.
      • Re-wrote one of my blog posts and will publish the article at GoArticles.

Again not much was done today but the potential outcome of the article and it's back-links is exciting.   I know that in order to make money online with my blog I am going to have to get more links all over the Internet.

The best free way to accomplish getting back links is to publish articles and have a link that points to your article.  Many website owners are looking for content and they don't have the time or the skill to write a properly SEO article related to their keywords so they will use others articles.

That is where your article comes in handy because those webmasters who want content will come looking and they will find yours.  Then when they post the article on their site or blog you get a link from their site to your blog.  Instant backlink and Google likes these, so what ever they like we also like and want more of them.  The more articles the better.

What I have accomplished with my money making blog in one week:
      • I have some great links all over the web, about 20 links and more will follow.
      • Wrote and published 2 articles that will give me backlinks to my blog.
      • Pinged my blog
      • Submitted blog to blogging directory and search engines.
      • Made a money making blog business plan and goals.
      • Submitted blog at 2 Blog Carnival magazines.

Here is what has not happened yet:  I have not made any money yet, and I say yet because I know that it will come with time.  Only a handful of visitors, but I know that will grow too.  Still not indexed in the major search engines - Yet!

If I keep working on getting backlinks and more traffic to my site I know that my blog will make money and I will be one of the top 10% of people making money online.  If you want to be in the top 10% of people who make money online bookmark my blog and check back often to see what new ideas I am up to at My Blogging Fortune that you can use on your blog to make money.

My new challenge is to continue to post twice daily.  I believe the people who say content is king and I intend to help out my readers and provide them with informative content they can use to make money online with a blog.

Day 6 - My Blogging Fortune Challenge

It's Day 6 and I have been trying to do all I can to get more traffic to my blog.  Been doing research on how to get free traffic to my site.  I have also learned about many interesting free traffic ideas that I want to try in the future.

What did I do on Day 6 to Make Money with my Blog?
      • Wrote an article for Ezine Articles
      • Submitted a post to 2 Blog Carnival Publishing Magazines

Just found out what a Blog Carnival is when I jumped on the opportunity to get more traffic to my blog.  I am not sure what the results will be, but I am expecting great results.

What Can You Learn from Problogger?

If you have been looking around the blogging for money world you may have noticed the blog site:   Problogger.net  which is written by Darren Rowse.  Darren has written a blog post about generating traffic a favorite topic of mine.  You can view his post below:

7 Factors on Generating Traffic to Your Blog
"Over the last few weeks I’ve had three conversations with readers regarding different sources of traffic..."

Darren has been running his blog for a few years now so he has built up quite a following and quite a large yearly income just from his problogger.net blog.  Darren also has guests post sometimes on his blog - which is a win/win situation.  He gets more relevant content for his blog and gets a break from posting so often and the guest poster gets a link back to their blog.

It is always nice to have someone who is the top in their field to emulate.  So Darren Rowse is my mentor, whether he knows it or not.  You can learn a ton about a person just from watching and reading their blog and noticing the methods that they use.

Day 5 - My Blogging Fortune Challenge

Day 5 of my Blogging Fortune Challenge - Weekend Slow Down

It's Day 5 and we have the weekend, Valentine's Day and a migraine.  So not much work got accomplished on the blog today.

But here is what did happen:
Still frustrated with Technorati because it has been three whole days (I'm Impatient) they have found my blog and it is under review.  I don't want to ping my blog again because I have their code in one post and I don't want that showing up anywhere else.   I just want it added to their blog directory so I can get some more blog traffic which = more money!

What did I do on Day 5 to Make Money with my Blog?
      •  Placed  4  New Links to my Blog around the Internet
      • Started an article to put up on Ezine Articles
That was it, but at least I did something.  I would have liked to had one more link to make it 5 links a day because my blog needs the link love.

Turn Your Blog into a Profit Machine

As I was doing more research to get tons of traffic to my  blog so I can make more money I came upon this site where they were offering a free chapter of their ebook.

      The ebook is Blog Dynamite

They claim that you can start a profitable blog within six days and to  Transform Your Blog Into An Explosive Profit Machine.  Well who doesn't want to make money from their blog in just 6 days?
So I signed up to read a free chapter of the Blog Dynamite sent to my email in the form of a PDF.  It was pretty standard sign up and I had to confirm the email to get the ebook chapter sent to me.

The First Chapter of Blog Dynamite is useful:
I have been blogging for a while now and I know more than the average newbie.  But, just in this first chapter I was reminded of something I need to change on my blog to make it more user friendly.  That first chapter also reminded me of a topic that I need to post about to get more traffic to my blog.  If you don't know it yet - the more blog traffic you can get the more money making opportunities you have.

Day 4 - My Blogging Fortune Challenge

Day 4 of my Blogging Fortune Challenge - Burnt out So Soon?

OK, it is only Day 4 of my blogging challenge.  I'm not lazy honestly but I have a ton of other projects going on at the same time and this blog seems to be stressing me out.  I can't afford to fail again.

I was searching to find out how many blog posts are acceptable.  At this point I am not sure that it even really matters if I post something once a day or three times a day.  It seemed that some people were split down the middle on this question.

Some thought that once a day blog posting was just the right amount so that their subscribers wouldn't get too far behind or miss out on something because they were blogging too often.  Eventually it is my goal to get readers to subscribe to my blogs RSS feed but that is probably not going to happen anytime soon.

Others were for posting multiple times a day even past 20 posts.  Well if you were trying to cover the 2010 Winter Olympics with scores then you might need to update your blog that often.  Their thoughts were the more blog posts we have the more traffic we will get, makes sense.

For my blog I think once or twice a day at least at the beginning is appropriate.  I just want to do what is right to maximize my blogs money making potential.
